Summary

The Fiat G.91 is a single-seat, single-engine military jet produced by Italy's Fiat Aviazione / Aeritalia. The G.91 was used primarily as a fighter and a light attack / light bomber by the air forces of Italy, West Germany, and Portugal.

The G.91 took its first flight on August 9, 1956, and was formally introduced in 1958. Produced until 1977, a total of 756 G.91s were built, and they saw use well into the 1990s, with the last one retired by Italy in 1995. A versatile military platform, the G.91 can carry a wide variety of munitions and weapon systems, including bombs, rockets, missiles, and guns.

The Fiat G.91 is 33 feet, 10 inches in length, features a swept-back wing with a span of 28 feet, 1 inch, and a fuselage-mounted empennage. The aircraft is powered by a Bristol Siddeley Orpheus 803 Turbojet that produces 5,000 pounds of thrust, has a top speed of 668 miles per hour, can climb at a rate of 5,900 feet per minute, and has a ceiling of 43,000 feet above sea level.

Built for a wide range of military uses, the sleek Fiat G.91 is a nimble performer in the air at all speeds. Through its bubble canopy, pilots can keep a solid view on the world around them as they rocket away from the ground, rise through the clouds, perform a wide range of aerobatics, or just cruise near ground level, visually exploring the landscape beneath them.
