X-Plane 11 is a Professional flight simulator that is developed by Laminar Research and published by Laminar Research. X-Plane 11 is available on a DVD, USB and digital, it runs on Mac OS, Windows and Linux platforms.

Summary

X-Plane 11 is completely redesigned with a intuitive user interface that makes setting up and editing your flight a breeze. Consistently usable 3-D cockpits and stunningly high-resolution exterior models for all included aircraft. X-Plane 11 features new effects engine for lighting, sounds, and explosions. Realistic avionics, all planes are IFR-ready right out of the gate. Busy, "living" airports with pushback tugs and roaming fuel trucks, able to service both your aircraft and the simulator's AI planes. New buildings and roads were added to better simulate European cities.

Aircraft

The simulator includes 15 aircraft with native models for X-Plane 11 spanning a variety of types and sizes within the base installation.

A further 7 aircraft with older X-Plane 10 models are also included. These aircraft are hidden until the user checks "Show extra aircraft from old versions" in the Flight Configuration menu.

Additional aircraft are available either as payware from the official distributor (Aerosoft), as 3rd party installs purchasable from numerous online retailers, or as free content mostly available from X-Plane.org.

For a list of aircraft available for the simulator with articles, see available airplanes in X-Plane 11 and available helicopters in X-Plane 11.

Airports

As of 2021-10-30, X-Plane 11 includes 39,266 airports in the base simulator. Airports consisted of 2D maps of runways, taxiways, and buildings in early versions of X-Plane 10 with 3D modeled airport support being added in approximately version 10.32. Most sizeable airports in X-Plane 11 are fully 3D modeled by hand, though a number of remote airports still rely on the original 2D models.

Airport updates are community-driven through the X-Plane Scenery Gateway. Users submit airport updates for moderator review and they are either approved or disapproved. The most up-to-date approved airport versions are automatically selected for inclusion in the next release version. Users can manually download more recent updates from the Gateway if so desired.

Third-party airports can also be manually added to the simulator if so desired. They are available as either payware (from a number of developers and retailers) or as freeware.

As of version 11.55, Laminar Research has released 24 versions of X-Plane 11 which can be categorized into several types.
