X-Plane 10 is a Professional flight simulator that is developed by Laminar Research and published by Aerosoft GmbH (Steam). X-Plane 10 is available on a DVD, USB and digital, it runs on Mac OS, Windows and Linux platforms.

Summary

X-Plane 10 is designed to be the most flexible flight simulator it has a fully open structure that allows the enthusiast to change every part. With thousands of compatible add-ons there is no kind of flying craft that is not simulated and there is a whole world to explore.

The core is a virtual wind tunnel that creates the most realistic flight modeling available on a desktop. Equally capable of simulating every type of aircraft, the virtual pilot is able to experience the challenges of flying big airliners or tiny ultra-light aircraft. The realism of X-Plane 10 is proven by the fact that X-Plane is used as a certified training tool. Each aircraft flies just as it should, from the glider to the Space Shuttle!

Aircraft

The simulator includes several aircraft spanning a variety of types and sizes with the base installation at no additional charge.

A further 6 aircraft with older X-Plane 9 models are also included. These aircraft are listed under the "Extra Aircraft" category when selecting an aircraft in the user interface.

Additional "experimental" aircraft are included. They are largely beta aircraft which did not complete development.

Further aircraft are available either as payware from the official distributor (Aerosoft), as 3rd party installs purchasable from numerous online retailers, or as free content mostly available from X-Plane.org.

For a list of aircraft available for the simulator with articles, see available airplanes in X-Plane 10 and available helicopters in X-Plane 10.

X-Plane Scenery Gateway airport updates are generally included in version numbers ending in '0' and '5', with some exceptions:

  • 10.32 (2015-01-14) was the first version to include Gateway airport updates
  • 10.50 (2016-09-07) Gateway airport updates were pushed to 10.51 (2016-10-26) instead

Default Scenery

Having installed the software via Steam you only have the main simulator as well as the Seattle region. More scenery has been divided into various free and optional DLCs. Installation of said DLCs is quite simple and is done very fast. -> Guide
