The Bell 407 is a civil utility and military utility helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter.

Summary

“ The 407 is a single-engine, multi-mission utility helicopter produced by Bell Helicopter of the United States. It was developed based on Bell’s highly successful 206L-3 LongRanger III, and like its progenitor, the 407 is crewed by one and has seating for up to six passengers. The helicopter is one of the most versatile, advanced rotorcraft flying today. It uses a four-blade, composite main rotor system and a “soft-in-plane” variation of a fully articulated hub with elastomeric bearings. The anti-torque tail rotor is a 2-blade design. The craft took its maiden flight on June 29, 1995 and was introduced in 1996. Over 1,500 have been produced to date, and the airframe serves a tremendous spectrum of purposes, including business, law enforcement, air ambulance, research, media, commercial, special applications, forestry, and military.

The 407 measures 41 ft 8 in (12.70 m) in length, stands 11 ft 8 in (3.56 m) in height, and its main rotor system has a diameter of 35 ft (11 m). The helicopter is powered by a single Rolls-Royce/Allison model 250-C47B turboshaft engine that delivers 650 hp (485 kW) for take-off and 600 hp (447 kW) continuous for operations. The 407 has a four-hour endurance, an in-ground-effect hover maximum altitude of 13,550 ft (4,130 m) above sea level, an out-of-ground-effect hover limit of 11,940 ft (3,639 m) above sea level, and a maximum cruise speed of 161 mph (140 kn; 259 km/h).
