| “ | The Model 99 is a twin-engine monoplane that was manufactured by the American aerospace company Beechcraft for a broad range of utility applications. From 1966 to 1987, the company produced a number of variants that have been used for light commuter, cargo, and business transport over the years. The Model 99 was created as a fusion of Beechcraft's successful Queen Air and King Air, with engineers using the wings of the former, nacelles of the latter, and many of their shared subsystems for the hybrid design. The aircraft is unpressurized, features a low wing with a span of 45 feet, 10.5 inches, and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PY6-A turboprop engines turning Hartzell constant-speed, reversing propellers. The Model 99, which has a side-by-side, two place cockpit, and room for up to 17 passengers, boasts a top speed of 236 miles per hour and a range of 1,048 miles. Despite being a general utility aircraft used primarily for commuter passenger service, the Beechcraft Model 99 affords pilots a sporty, even exhilarating cockpit experience. Zoom into the air with the throttles pushed all the way forward and climb into the heights at an impressive 1,700 feet per minute. From its service ceiling of 26,000 feet, aviators can gaze across vast sweeps of the planet's surface below, ease back into low-level flight, or gently dive into a range of maneuvers that hone skills and hearten confidence. |
