Tutorial 1: First Takeoff is the first mission in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It introduces the user to game mechanics such as camera movement, flight dynamics and user interface. The objectives of the mission are take off, fly through 3 gates and land on runway 15 of Edwards Air Force Base.

Overview

Ready to start flying? This first tutorial takes place at Edwards Air Force Base in California (KEDW). Your Trike ultralight is parked at the end of runway 15, one of the longest runways in the world!

You'll learn the basics of navigating and looking around, then you'll take off, fly through a series of gates, and land back on the same runway. It's easier than you think!

Walkthrough

You start parked on runway 15 of Edwards Air Force Base in an Air Creation 582-SL Trike Ultralight. The instructor will explain some camera and user interface controls to you.

When you become familiarized with the controls press 1 to continue the tutorial.

Reduce the throttle to idle and start the engine by pressing the IGN switch on the Popup panel (⇧ Shift+4) or by pressing Ctrl+E.

Release the parking brake by pressing the period . key.

Add full throttle and take off.

Climb through gates 1 and 2. Reduce power to half before descending to gate 3 to prevent overstressing the aircraft.

Reduce power to idle and land. Press the period . key to apply the brakes until you come to a complete stop.
