Caproni Vizzola C22 Ventura

From Flight Sim Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Caproni Vizzola C22 Ventura was a military trainer manufactured by Caproni Vizzola.

Only the initial C22J trainer variant was actually produced; the C22R variant proposed for reconnaissance did not receive any orders and was not built.

Summary

The C22J Ventura is two-place, twin-engine military jet aircraft designed by Italian aerospace firm Caproni Vizzola. The C22J was intended as a training aircraft with a few operational combat roles including electronic warfare and aerial forward air control. It first flew on July 21, 1980, but was never introduced into production due to lack of demand. Caproni Vizzola built just two, and the program was cancelled in 1988.

Based on a general sailplane design, the C22J features a high aspect main wing with a span of 32 ft 10 in (10.01 m), tip tanks, a T-tail empennage, and tricycle landing gear. The all-metal aircraft has a bulbous canopy with side-by-side seating for flight instruction.

The aircraft is powered by two Microturbo TRS 18-046 turbojet engines that each generate up to 220 lbf (979 N) thrust. It cruises at 174 kn (322 km/h), has a top speed of 261 kn (483 km/h), and stalls at 65 kn (120 km/h). The C22J has a range of 400 nmi (741 km), a service ceiling of 25,000 ft (7,620 m), and climbs at up to 1,800 ft (549 m) per minute.

The C22J Ventura by Caproni Vizzola is a rare breed of aircraft that offers pilots both ease of flight and the ability to push performance limits. Inside the cockpit, aviators can gently lift off, fly straight and level, practice turns, and then land with ease. Once familiarized with the jet, pilots can then test their skills in the C22J with loops, rolls, and maneuvers that push the aircraft to its +6 or -3 g limits.
